Kentucky, Church Issues, Amtrak, Graduation, Photos, Wedding, Flying, Plane Washing, heat, and a job!

Let's see, I know it has been a while, so I'm going to do a quick recap of what I've been up to the past week or so.

Two weeks ago I headed to Kentucky with LD's folks - after all he was heading up to WI to fish for a few days. While down there I did Karaoke for the 1st time...what a hoot that was. LD's grandpa claims I was so bad he cried. I kind of believe it. It was harder than I thought, but I think I may try it again. LD's mom & I did a lot of house shopping for the new house in KY. On Saturday we went to a place called Irish Acres - a huge antique shop & restaurant. It is sort of funny - it is in Nonesuch, KY...what a place! Then after lunching at Irish Acres we went to the "big city" and shopped somemore. There are some great stores down there...I'm gonna have to visit some of them again when I get a chance. The big guy & I drove back to IL on Sunday (in his "hot rod" - the yellow SSR) it was a LONG drive...guess I've been spoiled by flying to & from KY!

Got back to IL in time for a class at LD's church. It was a class about joining the church. I've enjoyed the church so far, but I did have some questions & I got some answered during this class. The end result, however, is that LD & I will be church "shopping" here in Champaign for a little while. We knew this might happen, and we went to Hessel Park CRC on Sunday & enjoyed the people there. I think we'll be going back again to see if it is a better fit for us. If not, we'll have to see what other churches might be the best fit for us.

Let's see, Monday night LD got back from his fishing trip. Read his blog if you want to know more about that whole trip. We were home together for less than 24 hours before I took off for the Northern part of IL/IN. I had found a fare on Amtrak that I couldn't beat by driving - $12 one way! So I had to take the train north on Tuesday night. Why is it that even the Amtrak can't be on time these days? We were over 45 minutes late getting on the train! Good grief!

The reason for the trip was my nephew's 8th grade graduation! I'm hardly able to grasp that he's old enough to go to HIGH SCHOOL in the fall! Yikes...it seems like yesterday when I first met him at age 4 1/2! So, last Wednesday evening I spent at Demotte Christian School's gym enjoying what a young man Chris has become!

Thursday I conned Grandma V into taking me to Illiana (I took her to breakfast to make it worth her while) for the annual awards assembly. It was sort of fun to be back there -- saw lots of people who were excited to see me & that was nice! Then it was back to the ranch for lunch with the kids & babysitting. That night I went to church with the folks for the Ascension Day service & it was nice to be back in Oak Glen again too.

Friday I was a SLUG! I didn't do nuthin! Cousin Derek was getting married at night & didn't have anything to do until then, so I caught up on HGTV, TLC, etc. When LD flew up to join me I picked him up at the Lansing airport (in Dad Vdw's old pick-up truck) and we were off to the wedding. It was nice - the reception was also nice. By 10:30 we were wiped out and headed to the homestead in Dyer.

Saturday nothing was happening in Dyer, so we headed back to Champaign around noon. At the Lansing Airport we talked with a guy named Mario about buying N6897C. Since neither of us had sunscreen on we got a tad bit burned. Then we flew to Champaign and washed the plane, took more pictures of her, and had lunch at the Fiesta Cafe - good Mexican food & beer! After all that we met Train Guy & Mrs. Train Guy downtown for drinks - it was really nice!

Sunday, when I woke up I was soooooo hot! It had gotten steamy & with sunburn I was just too warm. I talked LD into turning the a/c on. After church we were off to Monticello for a cook-out at mom & dad's. LD & Luke took thier planes out for a quick fly in Allerton Park - & crashed - it was too windy. Then LD & I headed home. Back at our house I worked on putting all our CD's into binders & getting rid of the jewel cases. With as many CD's as we have we needed to consolidate! What a job! I finally finished this job on Monday.

Monday we took the numerous jewel cases to be recycled & then went & had a brunch at Kopi. Later in the day we went to the Corkscrew in Urbana to use one of the cool gift certificates we had gotten when we got hitched. We got 3 very nice bottles of wine. Should be fun to tap into them soon! Then we headed to a cook-out at Luke & Mandy's with the crowd. After most everyone went home, LD, Luke & Mandy, Mom & Dad, & I played this new game they got - Scene It - LD & I won twice...it was mostly a fluke, but I think we are all too competitive to play too many games with out hurt feelings!

Then Tuesday I had an interview at Horizon. I'm gonna be temping there for a month. I may be sitting very near LD...good or bad? Not sure yet! Guess we'll see! I am excited to get something to do that earns a little money. I'm soooo ready!

  1. Wow! That's quite the recap. You and LD certainly have a knack for writing posts that require scrolling, even on my 19" monitor.

Love the new colors and layout. And I look forward to seeing you around HHD, even if it's only for a month.

  2. Thanks (I think)! Guess LD & I should post more often, huh? We'll have to work on that.

  3. Love the new layout! Where did you take your CD cases? We have a ton because we are also putting our CDs in binders.

  4. There is a recycling place just across the side street from Home Depot(to the East of) - Turn off of Bloomington Rd onto Hagen Street. Almost to I-74 is recycling of almost everything. I felt a lot better putting the jewel cases in the bin for recycling than just tossing them. My husband however, the cynic that he is thinks that the city just tosses it all.
