I felt like crap over the weekend, so I stayed home yesterday. My head was throbbing & my nose was running & I ached pretty much everywhere. It is always a tough call when to stay home from school. Well, going back to school today cemented for me why I should NOT be absent more often. When I got back to school today I was greeted with vandalism in my classroom. I went to log onto my computer & I couldn't. Now, not being able to log in means I don't have access to my grades, etc. because I'm one of those high-tech teachers who has all of that stuff on computer.
So, I go to investigate to see what is causing my lack of computer connectivity…it seems that during one of my sophomore classes yesterday the sub let kids sit on the floor to work (who does that???). The boys who sat in the back of the class on the floor unplugged the network cord and then proceeded to twist it so badly that it wouldn't work & they also broke the plug at the end so that it wouldn't plug back into the wall anyway. To top things off they also decided that the floor back there needed some decorating…so they colored a few tiles with blue pen. Lovely, huh?
Just what I wanted to come back to...discipline issues! I will say this though…had they been using their brains they wouldn't have done this this week… Thursday we have parent teacher conferences! Gee, won't that be great information to relay to their parents!?
Ah, the joys of teaching!

Boys will certainly be boys when there's no one around to watch. I speak from experience. But now your story almost makes me feel bad for some of the things i did to teachers. Almost. :-)
ReplyDeleteGee...thanks for your sympathy??
ReplyDeleteBy the way...love your blog. You or LD are going to need to show me how to do pics on mine...I've not yet mastered that!
Thanks! I've been trying out a few different things for pictures. Both free from Google. One is Picasa, which is more of a picture cataloging program but has a button to "Blog This". The other one I used yesterday is caled Hello. Also from Google this one is more of an image chat program but also features nice integration with Blogger. Enjoy!
