So, it is Friday! I’m sooo glad. Sometimes I think 4 day weeks are worse than normal weeks. They just have a whole different vibe to them. I suppose what made this one seem so long & somewhat unbearable was the heat & having to be here at school last night.
I always dread that “back to school” nite, but I always handle it just fine. I did mention to the parents of the students that I have in US History about trying to incorporate current events into what we do in History. Case in point…the other day there was this great commentary piece on NPR’s Morning Edition. I happen to have some sweet technology in my classroom & so I wanted the students to hear the commentary & talk a little bit about it. Here is a link to the story: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4834204 Well, I told the parents about that & this one mom (who I love…she is great) sent with her son an e-mail that she got entitled “Who’s responsible in New Orleans”. It is great! I’ve asked her to e-mail it to me as I want to share it with others. When I get it from her electronically I will post it here…
What is my point? Well, I was dreading BTSN, but it was good anyway. I’m a worrywart about some things, especially things like that! But hey, now it is Friday & things are good! I get to drive down to Champaign to spend time with my man! ( We get to get away to KY for some R&R (and maybe the “big guy” will even let LD drive his boat!) Next week I’m parental unit free as they will be gone for a week fishing in MN (hope dad catches something this year…maybe it is bad for guys named Larry to go fishing with out me! I always catch fish!) I could go on and on about what good stuff there is in my life, but I’ll stop there before I sicken anyone who may read this!
Oh, and here is my “good” story for the day…I had asked my Western Civ students what “News” event in their lifetime they think was the most impactful on them…and guess what one boy told me…The Michael Jackson trial! I know he was kidding, but geez! What with Katrina, 9/11, the War in Iraq, the 2000 & 2004 elections, all in recent memory…I found that answer just pathetic! See what I have to deal with each day?
